Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Description

The City of Thompson’s Fire and Emergency Services Department is seeking motivated, community minded professionals to join our department as Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is responsible responding to a wide range of emergency incidents, including fires, medical emergencies involving pre- hospital care within their scope of practice. EMR’s are responsible for public education, equipment and facility maintenance, and administrative tasks.

Compensation, Incentives & Wage Progression
The City of Thompson offers a competitive and transparent compensation package, including structured wage progression and northern incentives.

  • Hourly Rate of Pay: $32.47
  • Annual Retention Allowance: $11,000
  • Bi-weekly Remoteness Allowance, paid every pay period
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision care and a defined contributory pension plan.
  • Overtime, benefits and shift premiums.

*EMR are hired as Probationary employees with a starting salary of $70,914.48 per annum and may progress to the First-Class EMR within twenty-four (24) months, subject to satisfactory performance and completion of required training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and other emergency situations
  • Operate and maintain ambulance, tools, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs and maintain required certifications and competencies.
  • Support community safety initiatives
  • Adhere to all corporate and department safety protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and perform administrative duties as required.
  • Be available for emergency overtime callbacks at any time of day or night, as required to support operational needs. Ability to educate and engage with the public on fire safety and prevention
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications:

  •  High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 4 MB C Driver’s License.
  • Current EMR license/certification (be registered with the College of Paramedics)
  •  Normal hearing without artificial aids.
  •  Vision: Minimum 20/100 unaided, 20/40 corrected in both eyes.
  •  Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and at least 18 years of age.
  •  Physically fit and medically able to perform duties.
